Super stoked after today's surf session. The wind was less than yesterday, the swell slightly stronger, the sun still out, my surfing was better and to top it all a seal came to visit the line up! Sweet!
With a major swell hitting Ireland, a small wave made it up the channel to KBay. Running 1m at 12sec it was enough to temp me over in the sunshine - I don't need much of an excuse for a trip to Kimmeridge!
We're at the Equinox time of year and it's almost full moon, so the tides are huge. Luckily I'd timed my visit for mid-tide and enjoyed a couple of uncrowed hours of clean, head-high faces on the Ledges.
No action photos today, by the time I got out of the water the waves had all but disappeared and took the opportunity to walk out and explore the Ledges. The water is so clear, I can see why the divers like it.
There's something incredible about being out back at Kimmeridge with the cliffs providing an imposing background and the surf pounding around you. What a way to start the weekend. Awesome!
While Cornwall had hail stones and a strong (but freezing) North Westerly, we had glorious sun and barely a breath of wind. Storms earlier in the week had left quite a swell so after picking up a Christmas tree in the morning, I grabbed my surf board and headed for a dip. Donning my full winter gear including boots, hoot and gloves, and with the sun beating down, it was pretty warm. Which was just as well, given it was quite a wait between the sets. In the end, I was in the water for about 90 mins with just two of us sharing the break. There were waves a plenty and my surfing is starting to improve such that I now have time to think about what to do rather than simply riding straight back to the beach... Home to mince pies!
After two windsurfing sessions earlier in the day at Branksome Dene and in Poole Harbour, I couldn't resist the tempation to enjoy the clear blue skies, sunshine and small groundswell arriving in Bournemouth. I was only in the water an hour this time but enough to catch a few waves. Definitely need to start wearing boots for surfing now though, my feet were pretty chilled at the end!
Sweet afternoon surf on the Ledges at Kimmeridge. Must have been about 50-60 people out around the bay enjoying the surf and glorious November sunshine. Great to see!
Great dawn session at Branksome Dene. Hit the water early on a 5.8 only for the wind to switch on. Probably should have been on a 5.2 or even 4.7... Great start to the day, especially on top of yesterday afternoon's session 5.2 session on the 75L and in the sun. Super stoked. Mrs L got me a robie for getting changed on the beach and it is fantastic ;-)
One board fits neatly under the kombi double seat in the back of the van. Here's my solution to carrying more than one board in the back without stacking them on top of the seats...
The swell has been around all week and judging from some of the pics, Kimmeridge was huge day. Double overhead by the looks of it. Glad I stayed on the learning slopes in the bay. I probably went an hour too early today, the tide was still too high, but as it dropped the conditions got better and better. By midday when the tide was at 1.6m the sets were head high and plenty for me to improve my wave catching skills. I also learnt to duck dive today which I was well pleased about.
